Fleet Service – Dive Teams & Institutions

Fleet-level scuba service for gear you can’t afford to doubt

Scuba Gear Service LLC provides fleet-level scuba service for organizations that depend on working life-support equipment for operations, training, and research—not just recreation.

The shop is owned and operated by Rob Hancock, a NAUI Technical Dive Instructor with over thirty years of experience servicing scuba equipment. Rob has spent his career teaching divers to trust their gear in demanding environments and then doing the bench work to keep that gear performing.

We service complete scuba systems:

  • Regulators

  • BCs and inflators

  • Dive computers

  • Scuba cylinders and valves

Rob is based in Trinity, Texas, serving fleets across the Houston–Dallas corridor and currently supporting customers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Alabama.

Who we work with

We focus on teams and programs that need consistent, documented performance, not one-off retail servicing.

Public Safety & Rescue Teams

  • Fire department and law-enforcement dive units

  • Search and rescue teams

University & Scientific Diving Programs

  • University and college scientific diving programs

  • Marine and environmental research groups

Aquariums, Zoos & Animal Care Facilities

  • Public aquariums

  • Zoos and marine mammal facilities

  • Contractors maintaining exhibits and habitats

Training Centers & Commercial Programs

  • Industrial safety and offshore training programs

If you manage a fleet of regulators, BCs, computers, and cylinders, this page is for you.

Why fleet customers trust SGS

Instructor mindset + technician detail

Rob brings two perspectives to every batch of gear:

  • As a NAUI Technical Dive Instructor, he understands how equipment behaves in real dives and what failure looks like when it matters most.

  • As a career service technician, he focuses on the internal details that keep that equipment performing.

That combination shapes how we test, document, and sign off fleet equipment.

Advanced testing and digital data

Every serviced regulator goes through:

  • Baseline test on arrival to see how it currently performs.
  • Complete overhaul using manufacturer-approved parts, lubricants, and cleaning solutions.
  • Breathing simulation with roughly 450 simulated breaths to help new parts settle in and to give early issues a chance to show up on our bench.
  • Final tuning and verification on a PC-based A.I.R. Flow Test Stand with digital gauges and data capture.

Using digital measurement instead of only analog gauges lets us:

  • Record intermediate pressure, cracking effort, and flow performance.

  • Compare results directly to manufacturer specifications.

  • Provide before/after readings in your service records.

The highest probability of failure often sits right after service, when parts are new and adjustments are fresh. Our process pushes the regulator through work on the bench—under simulation and under measurement—before it goes back into your water.

Complete-system focus

Fleet service goes beyond regulators. We support full life-support chains:

  • Regulators – Overhaul, breathing simulation, digital testing, and documented results.

  • BCs – Inflator and dump valve service, internal cleaning, and leak checks.

  • Dive Computers – Battery replacement and testing in a custom water-filled pressure chamber that lets us submerge the computer, simulate depth, and operate buttons while under pressure.

  • Scuba Cylinders – Visual inspections, hydrostatic testing, eddy testing, and valve service in line with OSHA/DOT requirements.

You get a view of the health of your entire system, not just one component.

Documentation and reporting

After each batch of equipment, we provide:

  • A summary report listing:

    • Units serviced (by description and serial number, where provided)

    • Work performed on each category of gear

    • Any notable findings or recommendations

  • For regulators, we can include key before/after test readings pulled from our digital records.

This documentation supports:

  • Internal safety policies

  • Dive safety officer oversight

  • Insurance or audit requirements

Maintenance plans that match your operations

We start with a short conversation to understand:

  • How many sets of gear you manage

  • Brands and models in your fleet

  • How often the gear is used and in what environments

  • Any known issues or failure history

From there, we recommend a maintenance plan that fits your schedule and risk tolerance. Common patterns:

Annual Fleet Service

  • One major overhaul cycle per year

  • Optional mid-year inspections and function checks

  • Fixed labor rates per configuration; parts billed as used

Pre-Season Readiness

  • Focused servicing and testing before training or dive season

  • Priority scheduling so your first class or operation starts on time

Staggered Readiness Plan

  • Your fleet is divided into groups

  • Each group is serviced on a rotating schedule

  • You always keep enough equipment ready for operations, classes, or exhibits

We’re happy to start with a pilot batch so you can see our process, communication, and reports before committing the full fleet.

Fleet tracking and visibility

For fleet customers, we can help maintain a simple record that includes:

  • Unit description and serial number

  • Configuration (e.g., primary, alternate, inflator, SPG)

  • Last service date and recommended next service date

  • Notes on recurring issues or items to monitor

Paired with digital test data, this gives you clear answers when someone asks:

  • “Which units are current?”

  • “Which sets are due?”

  • “What changed after the last service cycle?”

Logistics for teams and institutions

We design logistics around your calendar, not ours.

Regional fleets (Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama and neighboring states):

  • Ship regulators, BCs, and computers using the We Supply the Box or You Supply the Box options.

  • For cylinders, we coordinate drop-off or carrier options that fit weight and hazmat constraints.

  • For larger fleets, we can service gear in stages so you always keep enough equipment in service.

Other U.S. fleets:

  • Use your preferred carrier to ship equipment to us.

  • We agree on timelines and shipping plans before you send gear so you can schedule training or operations with confidence.

We currently support fleet customers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Alabama, and we’re set up to handle similar programs in other states.

Start a fleet service conversation

If you manage scuba equipment for a team, program, or facility and want a systematic, data-backed approach to maintenance, we’d be happy to talk.

To get started:

  • Send us a brief overview of your fleet (counts, brands, and types of gear).
  • Let us know how and where the equipment is used.
  • Tell us about your timing: pre-season, annual cycle, or a specific project.

We’ll follow up with questions and a proposed approach.
