Why Scuba Gear Service LLC
Your scuba gear service shouldn’t be an afterthought. At Scuba Gear Service LLC, we focus exclusively on precision regulator, BC, computer, and cylinder service so your life-support equipment is tested, documented, and ready for the dives you actually do.
Meet Rob, your scuba gear service specialist
Scuba Gear Service LLC (SGS) is owned and operated by Rob Hancock, an SSI Instructor Certifier and NAUI technical diving instructor with over thirty years of experience providing scuba gear service to recreational and technical divers.
Rob has spent his career working on life-support gear for recreational and technical divers. He understands that when you send in your equipment, you’re not just asking for “a tune-up”—you’re trusting someone with the gear that keeps you alive underwater.
At SGS, we focus on one thing: scuba equipment service. We don’t run classes or sell gear on the side. Our time and tools go into making sure your regulators, BCs, computers, and cylinders are ready for the dives you want to do.
SGS inspects and services:
-
Regulators
-
BCs
-
Dive Computers
-
Scuba Cylinders (including hydrostatic testing)
We serve divers in Greater Houston / Dallas-Fort Worth, TX and offer convenient mail-in service for divers and dive shops across the U.S.
Testing your regulators the way you actually dive
Most shops stop at basic “static” tests: checking intermediate pressure, measuring cracking effort, maybe a quick bench check to see if a regulator breathes. That’s useful, but it doesn’t tell the whole story.
Modern regulators—with venturi assists and higher performance designs—need dynamic testing to really see how they behave at different flow rates.
At SGS we use a PC-based flow test stand (A.I.R. Flow Test Stand) designed to test diving regulators under both static and dynamic conditions. For each regulator, we can:
-
Measure cracking effort and intermediate pressure
-
Run the regulator at different flow levels
-
Monitor how the entire system (first and second stage) performs while supplying air
-
Log and compare results against manufacturer specifications
We use this process on all regulators we service, not just “problem” ones, so every reg leaves with documented performance—not just a quick bench check.
This kind of testing lets us tune performance, catch problems that simple checks miss, and give you confidence that the regulator doesn’t just “seem fine on the bench” but actually performs properly when you’re working it underwater.
Digital service records for your scuba gear
We don’t just test your equipment and send it back. We document what we do.
For each job, we maintain a digital service record that can include:
-
Work performed and parts replaced
-
Before-and-after test results from the flow bench
-
Notes on any issues we found and how we resolved them
-
Photos of anything unusual or worth tracking over time
You get clear information about what we did and how your equipment performed. Over time, this becomes a digital archive for your gear:
-
Easier troubleshooting: we can see how a regulator or BC has changed across multiple services.
-
Better decisions: you can decide when it’s time to replace rather than repair.
-
Resale value: you can show a documented service history if you ever sell your gear.
The goal is simple: you should never have to guess what work was done or whether your equipment met spec after service.
What you can’t see still matters
Even if your gear looks fine on the outside, the inside can tell a very different story.
We routinely see:
-
Corrosion inside first stages that still look good externally
-
Debris, salt, or wear inside second stages that affect work of breathing
-
BC inflators and dump valves that “mostly work” but stick or leak under load
Your scuba kit is life support. It needs to function the way the manufacturer designed it to function. The only reliable way to ensure that is to have it inspected and serviced regularly by a trained, certified professional using the right tools and methods.
Organizations like Divers Alert Network stress regular regulator and cylinder service as a key part of dive safety, not just equipment care.
If you’re not sure when your gear was last serviced—or what was actually done—we’re happy to take a look, document its condition, and get you back to diving with confidence.
A dedicated scuba gear service facility
Our workshop is set up specifically for scuba life-support service. We separate cleaning, assembly, and testing so every step is controlled and repeatable, and we use the right tools for each stage—from ultrasonic cleaners and dedicated cleaning solutions, to a clean assembly bench, the A.I.R. flow test stand, and a digital microscope for close inspection of seats, o-rings, threads, and corrosion.
